Latest from my home studio. Freddy Weller song. My sister was a big fan of Freddy when he was in a rock band, Paul Revere and the Raiders. Freddy can also write a good country song. He's a great performer. Buddy Emmons played on his live recording of this song.

How long does it take to build a project like that Rick?

I am about to jump into the deep dark hole of home recording. I won’t be singing though.

It varies. Sometimes I can crank one out in a few hours. Other times, it takes days or weeks, but that's often because I do a little and might not touch it for several days. Another thing is that sometimes something that you assume would be easy, will take more time than anything else. If you make separate videos, that takes more time. I know this all sounds like a wishy washy answer, but it's kind of hard to explain. I do guarantee you that once you get into it yourself it will all become very clear. I'm just learning all this stuff myself, but if I can do anything to help you get up and going don't hesitate to let me know.

FYI: I use mostly Presonus equipment. For DAW I use Presonus Studio One. They all do the same thing. Protools has been around forever, but I prefer Studio One. Some people use Reaper, but I find it awkward. I found that learning to use what you have is more important than buying the latest and greatest plugins. While I do understand that one might be better than the other, the difference is nothing drastic. The most important things is getting your room working right, and learning your room so your mixes will translate. I've been using the slate audio headphones that simulate some of the best studios in the world, and I don't even use my monitors to mix.

Finally, don't let internet trolls spend your money. There's a lot of people out there that read all this stuff on the forums, and they're quick to tell you that you have to have this and that for your recordings to be any good, and it's usually the very expensive stuff. When you get a chance, watch some of the microphone shootouts on YouTube and see how much difference you can tell in a $300 microphone and a $3000 microphone.

Thanks! Yea, I got a lot of recommendations for PreSonus and StudioOne a couple of years ago when I started looking at things. I bought a dedicated PC and then I got sidetracked with life.

Think I am going to pull the trigger on it. Was thinking of using the BIAB plug in as a starting point for tracks. What do you use for monitors. I was thinking of going for the Yamaha HS 8.

I only want to invest once in this stuff but not go so big that I get overwhelmed.

I will have a lot to learn. Thanks again.

I use the Presonus Eris E8, but as I mentioned, I rarely use them since I got the Slate Audio VSX headphone system. It's expensive, but I like it so much better. I used to mix on the Dynaudio BM5A. They were good also. I usually run the final mix through a JBL Bluetooth speaker and see how it translates on that. No matter what you have you have to let your ears learn them. For awhile, you'll mix and think it sounds good and you'll burn it to a CD and go put it in your car and the bass will be weak or it will feel like it's going to pop the windows out. You'll eventually learn to compensate, but the Slate Audio VSX took all the guesswork out for me.
