BIAB problem
I have BIAB version 9. It came with Power tracks and Roland VSC 88 virtual sound canvas. I normally save songs from BIAB to midi files then play them back in Power tracks. But, now I'm getting no sound. It looks like they are playing but there is no sound. The BIAB has sound. When I double click on the VSC 88 icon, the demo song that normally plays looks like it's playing but there is no sound. Has anyone had a similar problem or have suggestions on how to fix it? I have windows 95. I have contacted pg music tech support but nothing worked. I'm in the process of contacting edirol.
Thanks,

First off, you will not get any sound if PowerTracks and BIAB are running at the same time, since only one program is allowed to use your computer's MIDI driver at a time. For a while, I was using BIAB to make MIDIs and while playing them back, not getting any sound. I then realized one time that if I close BIAB, then everything worked again.
Note that this is not just a Windows 95-specific issue, it is a MIDI issue.
Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Jonathan

Sounds like a configuration problem in windows. Go to the control panel and then to mulimedia and make sure there the VSC88 is selected as the default MIDI player.
I have BIAB9 and I tried the VSC88 software MIDI and I uninstalled it. My SoundBlaster AWE64 sounds as good as the VSC88 and it eliminated an extra software step.

I agree. I use the Creative drivers that came with my computer and never bothered to configure anything else.
I suggest that you try playing your MIDIs through different software, such as Windows Media Player. If you do not hear any sound, then the problem is a misconfigured driver.

Jonathan

When it rains, it pours. I just noticed that there are no windows sounds, dings and bells when a menu comes up. My son tried to play a game, Need for Speed, and there's no sound on that either. The BIAB has sound and I managed to get sound on Power tracks to play midi files. I've clicked so many options that I probably got it all screwed up. Is there an expert out there that I could email to help me get back to square one?
Thanks,

It's probably something simple like the wav playback volume level is turned down or it's disabled.
Bring up the "volume control" panel. If you have a speaker icong in the lower right tray you can click on that and it will bring it up. If not you can access it through start/programs/accessories/entertainment.
Make sure mute is not checked on the wav portion and also check where the volume level slider is - if it's all the way down, move it about half way and you should be able to get the wav's to sound.
