Mac Audio Through Tonex

Post by Ken Pippus »

OK, I'm stupid.

I have the drivers installed, the USB. cable plugged in and iTunes playing, with the Mac audio directed to the Tonex.

Why can't I hear tunes through the headphone output of the Tonex. Suspect I'm missing something simple.

Thanks!

Well, that worked well.

Is anybody using Tonex as a headphone amp with their computer to play "tracks."

Ken, I play tracks through my PA to get a better live performance feel. I'm new to the Tonex but not to modeling equipment. I'm running the Tonex through a Quilter Micropro mach II in the line in channel and it sounds great.

Thanks, Larry. I quite like some of the stuff I’m getting through good headphones from the Tonex. And my wife particularly enjoys them because she doesn’t have to listen!

I’m hoping there’s a simple way to channel audio from my computer through the Tonex to the headphones.

Go to iTunes settings and see if audio output is set to either System or Tonex.

Also, Tonex should be set as input and output in your Mac audio settings.

Thanks, Fred, that's exactly the sort of information I was looking for.

But all those settings are for Tonex, and I still have no computer audio through my headphones. Guitar comes through just fine, audio works through any output other than Tonex. Got any other ideas?

Is there a Direct Monitoring switch on the Tonex, or in the interface display? Try toggling that, if there is.

I think you’re right about it being something very basic in the settings, but since I don’t have Tonex and I don’t use iTunes with my interface, all I can offer is just generic troubleshooting.

Sure appreciate your help.

I have an email into IK seeking guidance. Hope the reply isn’t in Italian!

Ken, you apparently are not the first to have experienced this problem. It seems to be a Tonex software design limitation.

I tried using my Boss Katana as an interface, but it also had some limitations. Much easier and better sound from the Scarlett Solo, or any dedicated UI.

Please post here if you find a solution.

IK was very little help, despite multiple attempts at correspondence. I read Barry Yasika's concurrent thread, and went digging through the global setup menu. If you switch the environment (perhaps not their term) from "live" to "interface" computer audio comes through.

Pretty frustrating experience. And obviously several people posting on the Gearpage thread never figured it out.

Great!
It would be nice if all the manufacturers would use global terminology for their global settings. Anyway, now you can make music and now there is a reference for users when they do a search on the problem.
