Quadriceps Tendon Injury

Post by James Leaman »

I’ve developed a quadriceps tendon inflammation from playing steel. It’s above the kneecap where the tendon connects. Every time I play steel it aggravates the injury. I wonder if anyone else has had the same problem, and if so any advice. I’m thinking about getting a knee brace. I’m also taking Tylenol and icing it which helps somewhat. I should mention left knee. Any help would be appreciated.

I am not a doctor, but Yale Medicine says that Tylenol helps with pain, not with inflammation. That would require an NSAID like ibuprofen or aspirin or naproxen: https://www.yalemedicine.org/news/aceta ... -relievers

Thanks Mike. Unfortunately I can’t take ibuprofen and related drugs. Stomach issues.

Hi James, I'm in the UK, so I don’t know exactly what is available in the US. I use Voltarol Gel 2.32%, the medical name for it is Diclofenac Diethylammonium. It is a pain killer and anti inflammatory. Like you, I cannot take painkilling pills, stomach problems.

It works really well for me, I am mainly using it on compressed vertebrae and it really helps, I am also on other very strong pain relief but the gel makes a noticeable difference.

Another thing I use are knee braces, you can get one's that are not too intrusive and fit beneath trousers, or is that pants in the US

Anyway, hope you find something to help.

If it's any consolation, I currently have 6 compressed vertebrae, I couldn't play for a period, but I was able to get back into it after a period of recovery and very strong pain relief. Can't stop playing man :D
