Ive built a few spanish type guitars before but this is my first lap steel. It turned out OK. It actually looks better in the photos. Made with a piece of doug fir and two pieces of mahogany laminated together (what I had on hand). 10 string Bridge was made by Rukavina Guitars. 22.5 in scale. 3/8 string spacing. George L pickup (chosen mostly for its looks if Im being honest). My only steel experience before was with a 6 string rogue so I kind of guessed at what I would like. Some things I would do differently:
1. Less wood. Overkill on size and weight.
2. Smaller string spacing. Just my preference I suppose.
3. Move the output jack. Coming out the back makes it hard to lean it against anything while plugged in.
4. 12 strings. Should have just gone all out now I have to build another one.
I love it! Great choice on the stylings. Very retro Fender which is about as cool as it gets. You could add legs to that puppy. It's comfort size. Putting the knobs closer to the pick hand allows pinky swells. I haven't learned these yet. (or use a pedal obviously)
