Bill Jobes - R.I.P.

Post by Michael McGee »

With a broken heart, I have been asked to let the forum know of the passing of Bill Jobes. Bill had a tremendous passion for steel guitar and was a driving force around the Kansas City area in the promotion of the instrument we love for many decades. He was an incredible friend to me and his support will never be forgotten. I send love and prayers to his family. As more details become available, I will update this post.

Edit: Services will be handled by Bradley & Hadley funeral home in Clinton, MO. Visitation is at 11 am on Thursday, July 17, with service at 12 pm. Burial immediately following in Racket, MO.

Sorry to hear this. I first met Bill in the late 70's here in KC. I never got to one of his jams, for one reason or another. I remember him always dressing up at the St Louis ISGC. The last time I talked to him was at the Harrisonville steel show. Condolences to the family.

We never met, but his presence was felt at the ISGC shows.

Jeff and Fran Newman, Bill and Betty Jobes dressed in tux and gowns at the Saturday night event. Quite the spectacle.

RIP Mr. Bill

We bid farewell to a good man who selflessly gave to others. Bill showed us how to enjoy life while we still can. We are the better for having known him.
Rest in Peace, good fellow.

Bill was a dear friend, I met Bill 1984 at his farm at Urick mo, played at his Jam, I had only been playing steel for 4 years at the time, had my business partner Glenn Richards who blew a SAX with me, we became instant friends with Bill an Betty an there family. We both worked for GM me in St Louis an Bill in KC. For the next 40 years we would visit each other regularly, I had a Music store in Sullivan, he would come to my Jams two or three times a year an went to his jam at least 2 times a year.I made friends with so many local an Nashville player my life would never be the same with out them. Of course Bruce an Mike was always there they was good friends. Bill took me all over KC area playing an meeting new friends, I was always treated good in KC area by Lisners. So besides being a good friend he made my music life great an i owe him for much of my success.Thank you Bill for all your years of friendship.

I took lessons from Bill in the 70's. He was a fine instructor and enthusiastic advocate for steel. The steel community has lost a great member

I first met Bill when I moved to the Kansas City area in 1974, and we formed a friendship that lasted for over 50 years. When I started building steel guitars in '76, he was a staunch supporter of my efforts and continued to help me in many ways throughout the years. To say that I will miss him a lot is an understatement. Bill was a unique character, and if you never had the opportunity to know him, you truly missed a great experience. RIP my friend.
