Just got word that Tejano accordion legend Flaco Jimenez died.

we are losing a lot of great people. Like many folks, I was first introduced to Flaco's work through his collaborations with Ry Cooder. Seems like yesterday, but it was back in the 70's.

He certainly made that instrument cool. I’m sure you hear his influence in the local Texas scene, Lee. I can attest that it is alive and well in the SF Bay Area too, where I heard an excellent Norteño band not long ago. My older brother had some Ry Cooder albums in the 70’s, and I’m sure Flaco was on one of them, but I first recognized what an ace he was with the Texas Tornadoes in the 80’s. Adios, Leonardo.
