Eddie Freeman (Mississippi)

Post by Steve Green »

I’m saddened to report that SGF member Eddie Freeman has passed away.

I played in a classic country band in Natchez, MS, with Eddie for 17 years, from January 1998 to December 2014. We played on the second Saturday of each month. The show was called the Big River Jamboree (due to Natchez’s proximity to the Mississippi River). It was a fundraiser for the Shriners Hospital. In the 17 year run, Eddie only missed one show, and that was to attend a Steel Guitar Convention.

While I had long admired the SOUND of a steel guitar, I never had the desire to PLAY one . . . until I joined a band with Eddie Freeman. The first song I ever sang with the band was Randy Travis’ “1982”. When Eddie hit that kick-off, I nearly fell to the floor. It was note-for-note just like the record. I was amazed.

I will miss him greatly. Here’s a few pics.
