Missing Jon Light (RIP)

Post by Jerry Overstreet »

Jon was such a force here. Just a mild mannered, helpful individual and he's missed greatly.

He was so quick to offer his massive knowledge and expertise with mechanical issues to those who didn't have that and didn't know where to turn.

I try to offer up as much as I can, but we still need other knowledgeable folks to step up and help to fill this void that was left by Jon's passing.

Jon is sorely missed (as are many others), and your insights are also much appreciated, Jerry. I think we all should step up and share our knowledge whenever it is relevant.

Thanks Per. Yes, of course. Your input is valuable too.

I did not mean to infer that no one helps out. We have several players that offer mechanical, electronics, theoretical and technical assistance such as Ricky, Dave G, Dave M, Donny, Tucker, Ian, Toshi, Richard, Fred and many others for whose input we are truly grateful.

Well of course I miss Jon so much. Me and him Brainstormed so much stuff together; and it inspired each of us so much. He even came to a gig in lower Manhattan back when I played with Dale Watson right around year 2000; just to shake hands with Pride for what we do. He had as much passion for the instrument like I did; and it was a pleasure knowing Jon; I can truly call him a "Brother in Arms" (Miss you Jon; Play your music high on that mountain Bro> RIP).

He and I were kindred spirits. Among other things, we shared the same goofy (often misunderstood) sense of humor.

Jon and I never met. We wrote to each other in the late Nineties and he wound up buying my Carter SD 12 Universal. Only a few years ago, I discovered he too lived in Florida, I had recognized a picture of "my" Carter and turned out he still had it and credited me for having gotten him into playing Universal, which he told me he enjoyed.

Funny story, the first time he contacted me over the phone, after we exchanged numbers, after a while of talking, he said: "I don't know how to tell you, but from your writings, I thought you were a OLD, RICH and ECCENTRIC man who just had too much money so to buy a instruments every couple of months". I laughed and just said "OLD I'm not"

I had no idea he passed.

I should have visited him, when I found out he lived in Florida and we briefly reconnected.

Goes to tell: See your friends while you and them are alive!

Rest In Peace, Sir!... J-D.
