Volu-tone Model 5 Questions

Post by John Castelletti »

I am looking to build one of these. Info is pretty scant - Do any of you have one? any gut shots would be extremely helpful as I am trying to work out if there are filter caps and what values they might be. Also if anyone has a clue to transformer specs that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

I've heard of the Volu-Tones, but never had or worked on one. The filter caps are shown just below the choke in the schematic; maybe a 2-section can type, and values would have likely been 10-20 mfd.. I'm guessing the speaker might have been a Rola, as they were pretty common back in the 1930's, but I've alse seen a few Jensen and Utah speakers used in some similar early amps.

Maybe someone who has one or has worked on one can give better info.

Thanks for taking the time to help out, much appreciated Donny. Hard to say as the filter cap values in old radio's are pretty small... I will have to do some experimenting once I can find a suitable speaker and will probably have to get Heyboer to wind the PT for me.
