Question for Jack,,CD R-RW

Jack,
I have a problem with skips Etc when burning a track to my CD burner ( Acer 4x4x32 )using Aadaptec easy CD Creator.
After recording various tracks off the original CD through Media Rack software at 44,100 hz 16 bit stereo & saving it to the hard drive, it plays perfectly through Media Player or Real Player but when burned to the CD R-RW, it has skips & noise???
I clean the CD Burner before each burn & there is no problem with buffering. Ive never seen the buffering fall below 98%
CDs play perfectly through the Acer.
Any advise Jack?

The first thing to check. The CD burner needs "exclusive control of the PC" while it's burning CD's. If you have any other program running it could cause glitches, dropouts, etc on the burned CD.

Whenever you do any CD burning, make sure no other programs are running, such as a virus program, off line - not on the internet, screen saver turned off, etc. If you have AOL or the AOL Instant Manager in the tray or if you have RealPlayer in the tray (lower right of the tool bar) sometimes they will try to log on at periodic intervals, if you are off line, so make sure they are disabled before doing the burning.

You should also have the CD Writer set for DMA in system properties, but I don't know if that would cause your problem.

There could be other things, such as a hardware problem, but I'd go with what I have above first.

Another hint if you're still having problems is to slow down the recording phase to only 2x or so~ this helped mine considerably

Since it's an Acer, I'll assume it's an IDE CD-R burner.

With IDE, the comments from the others are correct. Make sure nothing else is running on the PC.

With a SCSI CD-burner, this is much less of a problem.

Slowing down the write speed (as suggested) should also help.

One thing you do NOT want to do is to open up Explorer and go looking for files. Even on a SCSI-based system, this can cause problems if you try to read the HDD that you're recording from.

I should point out that my last observation is based on personal experience.

I wound up with a 20-second gap in my copy of the Dixie Chicks album because I tried to read the HDD while recording.

Note: I make copies of most of my CD's to carry in the car. That way, if they get stolen, I haven't lost my CDs.
